We took a whirlwind trip out to Orillia yesterday and back today to visit my husband’s family. We wanted to meet my new grand-nephew, now almost 6 months old, and celebrate my father-in-law’s 91st birthday. It was the kind of marathon I’m glad I don’t have to do often – 5 hours drive yesterday morning , check into a hotel, dinner with the family at a local Chinese buffet place, overnight at the hotel then back home this morning. All that time in a car is exhausting even though I just rode while DH and #1 son did all the driving. I have to admit there are very few people I would have done it for, but family is family. My parents are long gone and at 91, DH’s dad likely doesn’t have very many birthdays left to him, so it’s one of those situations where you do what you have to do to seize those special moments.
If I knew how to do it, I’d insert photos so you could share the festivities, but that’ll have to wait until I get a little more sophisticated. Meanwhile, trust me. The little guy was adorable and had everybody wrapped around his little finger and grandpa seemed to enjoy the time together, even though he’s not much for being the centre of attention.
